Tálknafjörður is a neatly laid-out young village by the sea, and is well sheltered from the northern chill. The village lies in the innermost part of Talknafjordur fjord. In the old days, the village was called Sveinseyri or Tunguthorp. Its natural harbor is very good and foreign fishermen who came to these shores in the last century and earlier, were quick to learn of these great conditions. For
tourists travelling by road, Talknafjordur is conveniently located in the central part of the West fjords, making it an ideal place to pitch a tent and take day trips to other parts of this beautiful part of Iceland.
